Bhubaneswar, 6 August (H.S.) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday met Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, in New Delhi to discuss the State’s preparedness for the upcoming paddy procurement season.
During the meeting, CM Majhi urged the Centre to enhance Odisha’s rice procurement target in anticipation of a bumper harvest this season. He also requested the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to increase the monthly lifting of rice to ensure timely evacuation from the procurement centres.
Highlighting the State’s initiatives to bolster food security and support farmers, the Chief Minister briefed the Union Minister on Odisha’s efforts, including the promotion of millets under various schemes and the expansion of warehousing and storage infrastructure.
“The Odisha Government is committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests through proactive policies and effective procurement mechanisms,” said CM Majhi.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo were also present during the discussions.
