Kolkata, 6 August (H.S.) – West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Shamik Bhattacharya on Wednesday announced key organisational appointments, naming new district presidents in four districts of the state. The appointments, made through an official party communiqué, take effect immediately.
According to the announcement, Sanjiv Tamang has been appointed district president of Darjeeling, Tapas Ghosh will head the Barrackpore district unit, Bikas Ghosh will take charge in Bongaon, and Tanmoy Das will lead the Ghatal district organisation.
The appointment letter was shared with senior party leaders, including state in-charge Sunil Bansal, Mangal Pandey, co-incharge Amit Malviya, state general secretary (organisation) Amitava Chakraborty, and state joint general secretary (organisation) Satish Dhond.
Party insiders said the move is aimed at strengthening the BJP’s grassroots network ahead of upcoming political challenges. West Bengal is set to hold its next Assembly elections in 2026, and since assuming the role of state president, Bhattacharya has been implementing a series of organisational changes to bolster the party’s position in the state.
