Asansol POCSO court has sentenced a father to death for raping and strangulating his teenage daughter to death. In this incident that took place in May 2024 in Hirapur police station area of Asansol, the Asansol POCSO court convicted the accused last Monday. Judge Suparna Banerjee announced the death sentence on Wednesday.

Public Prosecutor Somnath Chatraj said that the victim's mother had lodged a complaint against her husband at the police station. After that, the police arrested the accused father. Somanth said that the girl was strangled to death by putting a rope around her neck. The police recovered the rope from the dustbin and the testimony of 16 people was recorded.

Somanth told media that the police have found many evidences during the investigation. One of them is the DNA of the accused which was found in the sample taken from the girl's genitals. The court has sentenced the accused to death after considering all the evidence.

The trial process in the lower court was completed within 15 months of the incident. Somnath said that the judge has ordered the state government to pay a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the victim's family.
