Bhubaneswar, 5 August (H.S.) The Odisha Government has appointed Shovana Mohanty as the new Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Women. The position had been lying vacant since the removal of Minati Behera in November last year. As per the official notification issued by the Department of Women and Child Development, Mohanty, a native of Karanjia under Remuna Block in Balasore district, will serve a term of three years starting from August 5, 2025.

In a parallel development, the government has also appointed Babita Patra as the Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR). Patra, who hails from Mayur Vihar, Somnath Nagar in Berhampur, will hold the position for a period of three years from the date she assumes office or until she attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

In addition, the state government has notified the appointment of six new members to the OSCPCR for a term of three years or until they reach the age of 60 years, whichever is earlier. The newly appointed members include Sukeshi Oram from Kadagadia, Champua (Keonjhar), Kalpana Lenka from Basanti Colony (Rourkela), Chandana Das from Badagada Brit Colony (Bhubaneswar), Kasturi Mishra from Bapuji Nagar (Bhubaneswar), Manasmita Khuntia from Charampa (Bhadrak), and Sujata Nayak from Bomikhal (Bhubaneswar).
