Bhubaneswar, 5 August (H.S.): In a proud moment for the state, Odisha has been conferred with the National Award for Emerging State in Organ Donation, recognizing its growing efforts in organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

The award was presented by Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, during a special ceremony held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, as part of the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day celebrations.

Commending Odisha's achievement, Union Minister Shri Nadda congratulated the people of the state and the Odisha government for their exemplary performance in the field of organ donation. The official citation praised Odisha’s “commitment and contribution as commendable”, noting that the state’s efforts have played a critical role in saving and improving the lives of patients suffering from end-stage organ failure.

The award was received on behalf of the state by Prof. (Dr) Umakanta Satapathy, Additional Director of Medical Education and Training, and Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, Professor-in-Charge of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO).

The event was organized under the aegis of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), functioning under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
