Bhubaneswar, 5th August (HS): In a bid to enhance punctuality and accountability among government employees, the Odisha Government has directed all District Collectors to implement a Biometric Attendance System across all revenue offices under their jurisdiction.
The directive, issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, emphasizes the importance of timely attendance in government offices, stating that all employees from the junior-most staff to senior officials are expected to report to work within the prescribed hours.
“Timely attendance in the office has been one of the top priorities. It is expected that all employees of the State Government shall reach their office within the prescribed time,” the official notification stated.
This decision follows a surprise inspection conducted by the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister at the Office of the Inspector General of Registration in Cuttack on July 21, 2025. During the visit, a significant number of employees were found reporting late to duty.
The introduction of biometric attendance is seen as a step towards strengthening administrative discipline and ensuring efficient public service delivery. The move is part of the state government’s broader efforts to promote transparency and good governance.
