Guwahati (Assam), 05 August (HS): Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday paid heartfelt tributes to Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi on the occasion of Lok Kalyan Diwas, observed on his death anniversary.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister described Bordoloi as a “visionary of modern Assam,” whose intelligence and commitment played a vital role in shaping the state's destiny. “Because of his significant contribution, we are part of India today. His tireless efforts towards public welfare and his selfless service to the nation continue to inspire generations,” Sarma said.

The CM called upon the people to take inspiration from Bordoloi’s ideals and carry forward his legacy of good governance and integrity in public life.

Earlier, the Assam Cabinet had decided earlier to observe August 5 as Lok Kalyan Diwas every year — marking the death anniversary of Assam’s first Chief Minister, freedom fighter, and Bharat Ratna awardee Gopinath Bordoloi.

On this day, the state government also honours public servants who have demonstrated excellence and dedication in serving society. The observance aims to remember and celebrate Bordoloi’s remarkable contribution to Assam’s development and nation-building.
