Haridwar, August 5 (HS): Haridwar has been experiencing continuous rainfall since the previous day. The rain has caused rivers and streams to swell, disrupting daily life. The Ganga river in Haridwar is nearing the danger mark, and waterlogging has been reported in the riverbank areas as well.
Urban areas are also facing problems due to water accumulation. Amidst this, two spots on the footpath leading to the Mansa Devi Temple have caved in due to the rain.
Regarding this, Ajay Nigwal, Warden of Rajaji National Park in Haridwar, stated that late last night, reports were received about two locations on the Mansa Devi footpath where the ground had caved in due to rainfall. Upon receiving the information, a team was dispatched to the site, and temporary repair work has been initiated. Orders have also been issued to complete the repair work quickly after the rain subsides.
After heavy rainfall in the hilly regions, the water level of the Ganga in Haridwar has also risen dangerously close to the warning mark. At 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the Ganga was flowing at the danger mark, and by 10 a.m., it had crossed the danger level and reached 293.10 meters. The officially declared danger level of the Ganga is 294 meters. The continuously rising water level poses a serious challenge for the district administration.
The administration has evacuated nearby ghats and issued alerts to villages located close to the river.
