Kolkata, 5 Aug (H.S.) — West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced that large-scale measures will be taken to permanently address the recurring flood situation in Ghatal, West Midnapore, once the monsoon ends. The region has been waterlogged for nearly one and a half months, severely impacting local life.
During an on-site inspection of the affected areas, Banerjee said that under the Ghatal Master Plan, ₹500 crore has been allocated for the project and the contract has already been awarded. “As soon as the monsoon season is over, dredging and other essential works will commence, with the target of completing them by November,” she said.
She was accompanied during the visit by Ghatal’s popular Trinamool Congress MP and actor Dev. Banerjee expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe, providing long-term relief from flooding in the area.
“This time, a permanent solution to the repeated flood-like situation here will be implemented,” she said, directing officials to ensure timely completion of the work.
