Bengal BJP Seeks Monthly PM Modi Rallies Ahead of 2026 Assembly Polls

Kolkata, 5 Aug (H.S.) –In the run-up to the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the central leadership to schedule at least one public rally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi every month until December. The campaign is expected to kick off this month with a rally in Dum Dum, North 24 Parganas district, tentatively set for August 20, pending final approval from the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to a senior member of the state committee, the proposal was put forward during a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday. The party also plans to hold a mega central rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground in January 2026, with Modi as the key speaker.

Party sources said the upcoming rallies will be strategically planned to cover both South and North Bengal. Locations will be chosen at junctions connecting two or more districts to maximise reach.

This year, Prime Minister Modi has already addressed two rallies in the state — one in Alipurduar, North Bengal, in May, and another in Durgapur, an industrial hub in West Bardhaman district, South Bengal. In both events, he sharply criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government and the Trinamool Congress over issues such as corruption, crimes against women, and alleged riot-like situations in minority-dominated areas.
