Karbi Anglong (Assam), 30 August (HS): In a major success against drug trafficking, Bokajan police seized a large quantity of opium during a search operation in Karagav. Acting on specific intelligence, the police team intercepted a truck and arrested two persons involved in the supply.
According to police, the opium was recovered from an Ultra T-18 truck (HP-37H-9571) traveling from Manipur to Himachal Pradesh. The contraband was concealed under a blanket behind the driver’s seat.
Three packets of plastic-wrapped opium weighing 3.043 kilograms were seized, with an estimated market value of around ₹50 lakh. The arrested individuals have been identified as driver Surender Kumar and handyman Niranjan Kumar, both hailing from Himachal Pradesh.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections and further investigation is underway.
