Uttarkashi, August 30(HS):
Continuous heavy rainfall in Uttarkashi has severely disrupted daily life, with multiple sections of the Yamunotri Highway blocked by debris, boulders, and landslides. The rising waters of the Yamuna River at Syana Chatti have surged over the motor bridge, putting the structure at serious risk.
Meanwhile, in Syana Chatti, floodwaters are infiltrating hotels, entering from one side and exiting on the other, submerging the first floors of many establishments. The unfolding situation has left residents in a state of panic. Locals including Jaipal Singh Rawat, Navdeep Singh, Baldev Singh, and Shailendra Singh Rana reported spending the entire night awake, bracing themselves against the worsening conditions.
The Irrigation Department has deployed three excavators at the mouth of the lake to clear accumulated debris. These machines are actively working on channelization, but intermittent rainfall continues to impede progress.
