Nalbari (Assam), 30 August (HS): A shocking robbery rocked Mohkhali area of Nalbari district on Friday night, when a gang of robbers brutally killed a retired government employee inside his house.

The deceased has been identified as Pramod Barman, a former staff of the Nalbari Deputy Commissioner’s office. According to reports, around 10 pm, a three-member gang stormed into Barman’s residence under Belshar police station limits. The assailants, dressed in black clothes and gloves, overpowered the elderly couple during dinner time.

They tied the hands and legs of Barman and his wife with ropes before looting the house for nearly half an hour. In the course of the robbery, the miscreants strangled Barman to death when he regained consciousness. His wife, though restrained, managed to survive the attack.

Local police reached the spot soon after being informed and have launched an investigation into the incident. The gruesome killing has sparked panic in the area.--------
