Guwahati, 30 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reiterated that the state government will continue its eviction drives, while also making it clear that his government will not allow Assam to be turned into what he called a fundamentalist Islamic state.

Addressing press conference in Dispur Lok Seva Bhawan, Sarma remarked that figures like Madani are bound to oppose the BJP. He further claimed that in the past two weeks, several activists, including Harsh Mander and individuals associated with the Shaheen Bagh protests, have been visiting Assam. These people may attempt various activities, but BJP remains strong and will not be shaken, he asserted.

Sarma added that the state’s agenda is not limited to evictions. The next phase will involve work on NRC as well, he said, emphasizing that his government has a long agenda to counter ideologies that seek to alter Assam’s identity.
