Dhubri (Assam), 27 August (HS): A teacher has been arrested in Golakganj, Dhubri, for alleged links with a Jihadist organization. The accused, Shah Alam Sarkar, a teacher at Lakhimari Majiya School, is suspected of having connections with Jamaat-e-Islami of Bangladesh. He has been taken into custody by Golakganj police and is currently under interrogation.
According to police sources, Sarkar resides in Lakhimari, a village near the India-Bangladesh border. Another teacher from the same school, Hazarat Ali, is reported to have fled upon learning about the police action.
Officials further revealed that Shah Alam Sarkar was previously jailed in a case of murder linked to a quarrel over a carrom game. Meanwhile, police are also investigating recent audio messages allegedly sent from Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami to Amulya Roy, general secretary of Golakganj BJP, and Sudhir Sarkar, president of the Border Awareness Forum in Lakhimari.
Earlier this week, Golakganj police had arrested one Ali Husein Bepari from Lachimar Nayerchara village on charges of issuing threats in the name of a Bangladesh-based fundamentalist outfit.---------
