Imphal, 27 August (HS): Security Forces have stepped up their operations across Manipur, recovering arms, arresting insurgent cadres, seizing contraband drugs and cracking down on vehicle thefts in last 24 hours.

Manipur police PRO said on Wednesday that in a major recovery, troops unearthed a cache of weapons and military gear from Rashidpur under Jiribam Police Station, Jiribam district. The seized items include a 7.62 mm SLR, a 5.56 mm INSAS rifle, two pistols, six hand-held radio sets with a charger, two magazines, 41 rounds of assorted ammunition, an ammunition pouch and two pairs of jungle shoes.

Earlier, Security Forces apprehended Nongmaithem Naocha Meetei (26), a rebel of the banned outfit PREPAK (PRO), from Napet Palli under Lamlai Police Station, Imphal East district. He hails from Yaingangpokpi Makha Leikai in the same district.

Meanwhile, in Churachandpur district, forces arrested one Manneihoi Baite (49) from her residence at S Munnuam. From her possession, authorities seized 1,200 WY tablets valued at nearly ₹10 lakh, a significant bust against the illegal drug trade.

In a separate drive against vehicle-related crimes, police nabbed two notorious vehicle lifters from Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai under Thoubal district. The accused have been identified as Md. Ashiqur Rahaman (25) and Md. Yumkhaibam Moshil Khan (23). An Alto car and a mobile phone were recovered from them.

Manipur Police reaffirmed that the drive against illegal arms, narcotics, insurgency and motor vehicle offences will continue with full force.
