Hojai (Assam), 27 August (HS): In a major breakthrough against the drug trade, Lanka police arrested notorious drug mafia Arun Sahani, alias Bakul on Tuesday night. Along with him, two of his close associates—Akash Sahani and Sajon Prasad—were also taken into custody.

According to police, Arun Sahani is a habitual offender and has been jailed several times earlier for his involvement in the narcotics trade. His network has been active in and around Hojai district for a long time.

In a separate operation, Lanka police arrested three individuals from Ward No. 4 for possessing heroin. A total of 10.97 grams of brown sugar was recovered from their possession.

Notably, just a few days ago, Sahani’s mother Geeta Devi was also arrested by Lanka police in connection with drugs, highlighting the deep-rooted involvement of the family in the illegal trade.
