Chennai, 27 August (H.S.): A case has been registered against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay, along with his bouncers, following a complaint of alleged assault during the party's massive state conference in Madurai. The complaint was lodged by Sarathkumar, a resident of Perambalur district, who claimed that he was manhandled and pushed off a seven-foot-high ramp when he attempted to get closer to Vijay.
According to reports, the incident occurred during the TVK's second state-level conference, which witnessed a massive turnout of lakhs of supporters. Vijay had made a dramatic entry, waving at fans from a long ramp guarded by hundreds of bouncers. The video footage of the event shows Vijay walking along the ramp, surrounded by cheering supporters, with several people attempting to approach him.
The police have registered a case against Vijay and his security staff under three sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is currently underway. This development comes as Vijay intensifies his political efforts, aiming to challenge the DMK in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections, positioning TVK as a strong contender in Tamil Nadu politics.
The incident has sparked controversy, with BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan criticizing Vijay's conduct. She remarked that if Vijay is serious about politics, he should behave like a politician, not an actor, and maintain respect between the leader and the cadre. He should not treat his followers as mere fans coming to watch a movie. This kind of attitude is highly condemnable, she added.
