New Delhi, August 2(HS): Indian grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi lost to American star Hikaru Nakamura 2.5-3.5 in the third-place playoff at the Esports World Cup 2025 in Riyadh. The thrilling match culminated in a decisive sixth game. Erigaisi initially excelled, winning the first game with white and drawing the second.
However, Nakamura surged ahead by clinching the third and fourth games. Erigaisi equalized in the fifth game, but a critical mistake in the final game with black cost him the match. Nakamura's victory earned him $145,000, while Erigaisi, finishing fourth, secured $115,000.
