DMK's Electoral Preparations: CM Stalin to Review Membership Drive

Chennai, 13 August (H.S.) : The DMK party has strongly condemned the Election Commission of India (ECI) for its handling of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. At a meeting of DMK district secretaries chaired by party president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, a resolution was passed criticizing the removal of 65 lakh voters from the rolls, despite warnings from the Supreme Court against mass deletions without due process.

The DMK accused the ECI of acting in concert with the BJP to undermine free and fair polls. The party alleged that the ECI has turned political in the conduct of elections and voter roll preparations, siding with the BJP's electoral frauds and mocking democracy. This sentiment was echoed in the resolution passed by the DMK district secretaries, who expressed concern over the potential impact on the level playing field for elections.

The DMK has urged the ECI to ensure that voter lists in Tamil Nadu and other states are properly verified before the model code of conduct for elections is implemented. The party has also demanded that the ECI adopt more transparent and impartial procedures for voter roll verification. Specifically, the DMK has requested that the ECI-Delete only voters who have died, rather than conducting mass deletions and improve coordination with Booth Level Officers to ensure accurate voter information.

DMK also requested that the issue voter roll manuals in regional languages to facilitate better understanding. Ensure clarity in postal ballot counts to prevent confusion and accept multiple documents, such as Aadhaar and ration cards, as proof of residence and age to be added.

In a separate resolution, the DMK celebrated the success of its Ooraniyil Tamil Nadu membership drive, which has reportedly reached every household in the state. The party sees this as a clear message that divisive forces and those betraying Tamil Nadu have no place in the state's politics.
