Guwahati, 14 August (HS): In a meeting led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Cabinet on Wednesday night cleared a host of initiatives spanning healthcare, power, clean energy, and business reforms.
The state government has allocated the remaining ₹325 crore for the Mukhya Mantri Ayushman Asom Yojana for 2025–26, ensuring beneficiaries continue to receive cashless medical treatment without interruption.
In the power sector, the Cabinet granted post-facto approval to procure 500 MW of electricity from the Ministry of Coal at ₹5.79 per unit to make supply more affordable. It also approved the setting up of a 1,500 MW pumped storage project in Karbi Anglong to expand Assam’s renewable energy capacity.
Business and construction norms will also see a change, with amendments to the Assam Unified Building Construction (Regulation) Byelaws, 2022—a move aimed at fostering industrial growth, promoting eco-friendly buildings, and enabling housing for the Economically Weaker Section.
Eight proposals under Mission Basundhara 3.0—related to the reclassification and transfer of non-agricultural land in Dhubri and Biswanath districts—also received the Cabinet’s go-ahead.
Chief Minister Sarma said these steps underline the government’s focus on universal healthcare access, dependable electricity, sustainable energy targets, and an investor-friendly environment.
