Guwahati, 17 August (HS): Assam Pradesh Congress president Gaurav Gogoi launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma during an election rally in Koklabari, BTR, on Sunday. Gogoi alleged that the Chief Minister is trying to spread unrest in BTR and push Assam into violence.
Accusing Sarma of promoting a politics of bullets and guns, Gogoi said, “Instead of scholarships for the youth, Himanta Biswa Sarma wants to hand them weapons.”
He also claimed that the Chief Minister carries four mobile phones — one to speak with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, another to connect with BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary, a third for UPPL leader Pramod Boro, and a ‘secret phone’ to secure himself after elections if the political situation changes.
The Congress leader further alleged that due to BJP’s policies, people of Assam are being forced to pay a so-called “Mami Tax.” He warned, “Voting for BJP means that in the future, Assam’s youth will carry AK-47s, homes will be filled with alcohol and violence will dominate society. The BJP wants bloodshed and conflict for power.”
Appealing to voters, Gogoi urged them to exercise their franchise carefully and save Assam from the politics of violence.
