Baghpat, 13 Aug

(HS): Workers from Baghpat have been invited to the national function to be

held at the historic Red Fort in the capital New Delhi on the auspicious

occasion of the upcoming Independence Day. While a total of 178 rehabilitated

bonded labourers from various districts of the state have been invited as

special guests, 13 workers from Baghpat district have also received an

invitation. These workers were flagged off from the Collectorate premises on

Wednesday by the district's MP Dr. Rajkumar Sagwan and District Magistrate Asmita

Lal. Their husbands or fathers will also participate with them on this

occasion.

The District

Magistrate said that all these workers, who have been rehabilitated after being

freed from bonded labour conditions from various workplaces, are now starting

their lives afresh. Under the Central Government's Bonded Labour Rehabilitation

Scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 100000 has been provided to each male

worker and Rs. 2,00,000 to each female worker, so that they can start

employment according to their skills and do not go back to bonded labour. This

group of workers has left for New Delhi from Aligarh, Sambhal, Moradabad,

Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Baghpat districts on the morning of August 13.

They will stay in the capital till 16 August, during which they will

participate in pre-scheduled programmes, which also include Delhi tour and

cultural events. On this occasion, Chief Development Officer Neeraj Kumar

Srivastava, Additional District Magistrate Pankaj Verma, Assistant Labour Commissioner

Govind Yadav and other officers were present.
