The husband of a Trinamool Panchayat member has been arrested on charges of attempted rape in Chapra police station area of Nadia district. The victim claimed that her husband has gone out for work. On Tuesday night, the Trinamool leader entered her house and tried to rape her. The woman immediately started screaming. Hearing her screams, the neighbors ran and caught the Trinamool leader and beat him up badly. On information, the police reached the spot and the accused was taken to Chapra Rural Hospital for treatment.

Local people said that the accused's wife is a member of the local Gram Panchayat. The accused was produced in the Krishnanagar District Court on Wednesday. The confidential statement of the victim is also being recorded. The police is investigating the matter thoroughly. At the same time, the victim has demanded strict punishment for the accused.
