Guwahati (Assam), 13 August (HS): With only a day left for the India’s 79th Independence Day, Bokakhat is gearing up for a grand celebration—its first as a newly declared Co-district. The Co-district administration has lined up various programmes to mark the occasion.

Rehearsals are in full swing at the Bokakhat public sports ground, with active participation from the police department and students from over 20 schools and colleges in the area. Alongside the parade practice, cultural programme rehearsals are also taking place.

The administration is ensuring meticulous preparations, from maintaining cleanliness in the town to finalizing event arrangements. Several individuals who have made notable contributions to Bokakhat will be felicitated during the celebrations. Authorities have appealed to citizens for their full cooperation to make the event a success.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had introduced the Co-District system to streamline administrative processes and make services more accessible to people. Bokakhat’s upgrade to a Co-district is part of this initiative, which aims to provide all district-level facilities locally, eliminating the need for residents to travel long distances. Assam currently has 39 Co-districts, with 10 more expected to be introduced ahead of August 15.
