Bhubaneswar, 13 August (H.S.): In a significant step aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and enhancing the delivery of central and state government schemes, the Odisha government has announced plans to reorganize panchayats across the state before 2027. This will be followed by a comprehensive restructuring of blocks scheduled for completion by 2029.
Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Nayak confirmed that the panchayat reorganisation will be carried out ahead of the forthcoming panchayat elections, ensuring that local administrative boundaries are realigned to better reflect current demographic and developmental needs. The block restructuring will subsequently be implemented prior to the general elections, facilitating a systematic update of administrative and electoral units.
Minister Nayak emphasized the participatory nature of the process, stating, “In the coming days, we have decided to undertake panchayat reorganisation. This initiative will be carried out in accordance with the aspirations of the people and aimed at maximizing development within each block and panchayat.”
The move is expected to streamline governance at the grassroots level, improve service delivery, and foster more inclusive development across Odisha.
