Kamrup (Assam), 13 August (HS): In a daring daylight theft, an e-rickshaw was stolen in just 17 seconds from the heart of Rangiya city. The incident took place on the international highway at Shantipur, which connects India and Bhutan and was captured on CCTV.
According to the footage, the thief, identified as Habibur Rahman alias Kamble, stole the red e-rickshaw worth ₹1.65 lakh and later sold it for just ₹2,000 in a broken condition. Police recovered the vehicle while it was being dismantled in a secluded area of Dhuhibala.
In a night operation, the police arrested Kamble from his home, where he was hiding inside a storage box. Authorities confirmed that he has a history of theft and has served prison time for multiple similar cases.
