Kokrajhar (Assam), 13 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday intensified his campaign to secure power in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), addressing two ‘Vijay Sankalp Rallis’ in Kokrajhar, the capital of Bodoland.

Speaking at Veer Chilarai Ground in Chandrapada under Banargaon Council constituency, Dr. Sarma, accompanied by State BJP president Dilip Saikia, Minister Ashok Singhal, State BJP general secretary Diplu Ranjan Sharma, district president Gosai Basumatari, and other leaders, declared that the BJP is now the leading political force in BTR.

“Even in the rain, people come to our meetings. I see this rain not as water but as a shower of flowers,” said the CM, adding that people have embraced the BJP for change. He criticised the current BTR administration for failing to address key issues and vowed that only a BJP-led government in Kokrajhar could ensure justice, end corruption in the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC), and guarantee equal opportunities.

Dr. Sarma highlighted that under his leadership, Bodoland has seen peace, with no incidents of violence or intimidation during elections. “In the past, people were forced to vote under the threat of guns. Now, votes are sought with folded hands,” he said.

State BJP president Dilip Saikia announced Rajiv Brahma as the party’s candidate from Banargaon and expressed confidence that the BJP would win by a huge margin. “Lotus will bloom in Banargaon. Just as BJP is in power in Delhi and Dispur, it will also lead Kokrajhar,” he asserted.

Saikia credited the CM for restoring peace and stability to the region, saying, “Bodoland was once plagued by communal clashes and extortion. Now, not a single bomb has exploded since Dr. Sarma became Chief Minister.”

The BJP is preparing for the BTR elections scheduled for September, aiming to secure a strong majority and form the next government in Kokrajhar.
