Bhubaneswar, 9 July (H.S.): Bhagirathi Sahoo, former Senior Clerk-cum-In-charge Head Clerk (Retired) of the Establishment Section, Office of the Block Development Officer (BDO), Gondia Block, Dhenkanal, was convicted today in a bribery case by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal.
Sahoo was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance in connection with Cuttack Vigilance P.S. Case No.10 dated 24.03.2018 under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe from a retired employee of the Gondia Block in exchange for processing pensionary benefit papers.
The court sentenced Sahoo to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years and imposed a monetary fine.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced its intention to approach the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of Sahoo’s pension benefits in accordance with service rules and legal provisions.
