Kolkata, 9 July (H.S.) Tensions flared in South Kolkata’s New Alipore area after several lorry owners and drivers accused the police of vandalizing parked vehicles without any prior notice.

According to the victims, they have been parking their vehicles in the same location for over 40 years without facing any issues. In protest against the incident, lorry drivers have filed a formal complaint at the New Alipore police station.

The vehicle owners told that had there been any objection from the authorities, they could have been informed in advance so the lorries could be removed. They said that the sudden and forceful destruction of the vehicles is not only unjustified but also illegal.

Sources said that the police have assured that such incidents will not be repeated in the future. However, lorry owners and drivers remain unconvinced by this assurance. They believe the incident reflects a misuse of power and authority.
