Parandur Airport Land Registration Begins Amid Protests

Chennai, 9 July (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu government has initiated the land registration process for plots acquired for the proposed Parandur airport project in Kanchipuram district, despite ongoing protests from affected farmers and landowners. According to officials, the registration process began on Tuesday, with revenue officials visiting the villages to complete the formalities. The project requires around 1,345 acres of land, and the government has acquired a significant portion of it.

Farmers and landowners have been protesting against the acquisition, citing inadequate compensation and lack of transparency in the process. They claim that the compensation offered is not in line with the market value of the land, and many are yet to receive the compensation amount. Despite these concerns, the government has assured that the registration process will be completed expeditiously and that the acquired land will be utilized for the airport project.

The Parandur airport project is expected to be a major boost to the region's infrastructure and economy. Once completed, it will cater to the growing air traffic demand in the state and provide a much-needed relief to the Chennai International Airport. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region. However, the protests by farmers and landowners may delay the project's implementation.

The government has urged the protesters to cooperate with the authorities and come forward to complete the registration process. Revenue officials are working to complete the formalities, and the government is expected to take possession of the land soon. The project is a high priority for the state government, and efforts are on to complete it within the scheduled timeline.

The development has sparked mixed reactions in the region, with some supporting the project for its potential economic benefits, while others are adamant about protecting their land rights. As the situation stands, the government seems determined to push the project forward despite the resistance.
