Goalpara (Assam), 9 July (HS): Tension has prevailed in Goalpara town due to malicious activities. Several idols located in the Durga temple premises were vandalized by miscreants here. The miscreants damaged the idols of Shiv temple, Maa Mansa temple and Durga temple. He also broke the donation box of the temple. Police have arrested the accused in this case.
This incident happened on Wednesday dusk. An unknown person entered the temple premises and started breaking the idols. Hearing the noise, temple secretary Banmali Das reached there and tried to catch the miscreant, but the miscreant escaped from there. While running away, he also attacked the hand of the temple secretary.
After this incident, there is anger among local residents and religious groups. As soon as the news came out, a huge crowd of people gathered outside the temple. Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Bengali Mahasangh and local residents protested the incident and raised slogans, due to which the atmosphere became very tense.
Senior police officials, including the district's Superintendent of Police, Additional Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police, visited the spot to assess the situation and lead the investigation.
During the investigation, clothes and a mobile phone were recovered from the temple, which possibly belonged to the same vandal. Based on these clues, the police swiftly launched an investigation and arrested the accused named Shabuddin.
The Goalpara police also confirmed that the man named Shabuddin Ali (31) has been arrested in connection with the vandalism. Investigations and action are underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack and if there was anyone accompanying the accused.
