Varanasi, 9 July (HS): Following
a property dispute, a man reportedly murdered his elderly father and sister
with a metal rod and bricks. He was later arrested, authorities said on Wednesday. According to Neetu Katyal, Additional Deputy
Commissioner of Police (Varuna Zone), the double murder occurred on Tuesday at
Pratap Nagar Colony, which is within the jurisdiction of Cantt police station. Rajesh
Kumar, the accused, reportedly assaulted his 78-year-old father Roop Chandra
Bhardwaj and his 50-year-old sister Shivkumari following a heated argument
about family property. According to the
police, both victims died immediately after being repeatedly beaten with a
metal rod and building blocks.
After
getting information from neighbours, the police raced to the location and
arrested Rajesh and his wife for interrogation. According to investigators,
Bhardwaj was a retired employee of a government department. He had bought land and built a house in
Pratap Nagar Colony, then transferred title of the property to his daughter,
causing animosity and conflict with his son. The quarrel escalated on Tuesday,
resulting in the deadly attack, according to police, who added that more legal
action will be taken based on the investigation's findings.
