Kolkata, 9 July (H.S.): A fire broke out in Kolkata's Jadavpur area during Left Front's rally in support of the nationwide Bharat Bandh on Wednesday. The bandh, called by Left parties to protest the alleged anti-worker and anti-farmer policies of the central government, took an alarming turn in Kolkata’s Jadavpur area.
The incident occurred near the 8B Bus Stand when protestors from a CPI(M) rally set effigies and tyres on fire. The fire got out of control and spread to roadside shops.
Eyewitnesses said that high flames reaching the overhead cable wires created panic in the area.
However, police personnel present on the spot prevented the fire from spreading further. They managed to douse the flames quickly.
As per the latest information, the fire has been brought under control and no injuries have been reported.
