Chaos at encroachment removal sites in Dhubri

Dhubri (Assam), 9 July (HS): The biggest encroachment removal drive in Assam so far has been carried out in Chirakuta, Santoshpur and Charuwabakhra villages under Chappar revenue circle. Due to this demolition in Chappar, about 1300 families living illegally on government land became homeless in a single day.

On the other hand, the Assam government has given place to the demolished families to live in an area called Baijer Alaaga Char on the banks of the Brahmaputra river. But since that area is vulnerable to erosion by the Brahmaputra river, it is feared that the families living there will again become landless.

Meanwhile, today again the police launched a sudden drive at the demolition sites of Santoshpur, Charuwabakhra and Chirakuta in Chappar. The police evacuated people from roads, streets and houses. Although there is no clear information about why this police operation was carried out, but tremendous panic has spread in the area.

According to the information received so far, the police have detained 165 people. There is an atmosphere of chaos all around. On the one hand people are being detained, the police have also been accused of beating some people. During this, one person has been seriously injured and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.---------------
