9 July (HS): Four youngsters drowned after falling into a water-filled trench
in Bedouli hamlet on Wednesday, authorities said. Assistant Commissioner of
Police (Meja), SP Upadhyay, said police received word about 7 p.m. on Tuesday
that the four youngsters, ages three to five, were missing. The youngsters, members
of a tribe, were playing outside their homes when they went missing. A search
effort was begun, but the youngsters could not be found. The search began on Wednesday morning, and
the remains of the youngsters were discovered in a water-filled trench in a
neighboring field where soil had previously been removed, according to the
officer. At first glance, the cause of death looks to be drowning.
Bodies
have been sent to SRN Hospital for postmortem examination, and additional legal
processes will be begun depending on the findings, he added. The victims have
been identified as Vaishnavi (3), Hunar (5), Kanha (5), and Khesari (5), he
stated. Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has expressed his
condolences over the deaths. The chief minister issued a statement in which he
expressed his sympathies to the dead families and asked officials to ensure
that financial help was disbursed to them immediately.
