New Delhi, July 31(HS): The Delhi High Court attributed flood-like situations in Delhi to poor coordination among municipal bodies and directed the Delhi government to consider a centralized flood management system. The bench, led by Justice Pratibha Singh, highlighted confusion among agencies such as the Delhi Municipal Corporation, PWD, Delhi Jal Board, and more, emphasizing the need for effective coordination.
The court noted that certain responsibilities lie with local residents, who block drains and construct cement paths, exacerbating waterlogging issues. This case is linked to a petition filed by residents of slums near Maharani Bagh Colony, seeking rehabilitation and alternative housing due to waterlogging in their area. The next hearing is scheduled for August 19, 2023, where the court will further address these concerns and the need for improved civic services.
