Delhi, 1 August (H.S.): Vice Admiral CR Praveen Nair, AVSM, NM took over as the Controller Personnel Services (CPS) on Friday, honoring the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Commissioned on 01 July 1991, he is a Surface Warfare Officer with a specialization in Communications and Electronic Warfare, boasting over three decades of service in the Indian Navy. His notable sea appointments include serving on INS Krishna, Kora, Mysore, as Fleet Electronic Warfare Officer, and Fleet Communications Officer of the Western Fleet, receiving commendation for his role in evacuating Indians from Beirut in 2006.

VAdm Nair has commanded multiple ships, including INS Kirch, INS Chennai, and INS Vikramaditya, and held significant ashore positions, such as Directing Staff at the Naval War College, and officer-in-charge of the Signal School.

An alumnus of DSSC, Wellington, and the US Naval War College, he received several prestigious awards during his command course, including the Robert E. Bateman's International award. He has an M.Phil. in Defence and Strategic Studies from Mumbai University and has been recognized with the Nao Sena Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.

As Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Policy and Plans), he led initiatives like the Maritime Capability Perspective Plan (MCPP) 2022-37. Before his present role as CPS, he commanded the Western Fleet and spearheaded Operation Sankalp, and served as the Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy.
