East Medinipur, 26 July (H.S.): In a move that has stirred controversy within the Trinamool Congress, Bappaditya Garg, Block President of Nandigram-1, is facing severe criticism from the party’s district leadership after unilaterally appointing a new area (anchal) president without prior approval from the party’s top leadership. According to sources, the party is preparing to issue a show-cause notice to Garg.
The incident took place on Friday evening, when Bappaditya Garg personally handed over the appointment letter to Rakhahari Ghora, a TMC leader from Bhekutia Anchal, designating him as the new area president. However, this reshuffle was made without any formal approval from the party’s higher authorities.
TMC district president Sujit Ray had already issued clear instructions stating that no changes should be made at the area level until the new block-level leadership was formally announced. But Garg went ahead with his decision which has caused strong resentment within the party.
TMC vice-president Sheikh Abdul Alim Alraji denounced the move and said that the party does not endorse this decision. District leaders have also openly opposed the reshuffle, making it clear that the appointment will not be recognized by the Trinamool Congress.
The incident has brought to light internal rifts and factionalism within the TMC’s local organization.
Responding to the issue, district president Sujit Ray said, “The party is currently not accepting any reshuffle at the anchal level. New leadership will soon be announced at the block level. Any attempt to install individuals in leadership roles before that is against party rules.”
As of now, Bappaditya Garg has not issued any public statement regarding the controversy. Meanwhile, newly appointed anchal president Rakhahari Ghora defended the move, stating that the responsibility was given to him to strengthen the organization.
