Delhi, 26 July (H.S.): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken suo motu notice of a media report regarding a 50-year-old labourer who was buried while digging a sewer pit in Ajmer, Rajasthan, on July 14, 2025. The victim was reportedly part of a group digging a 30-foot deep well when the incident occurred, raising serious concerns about human rights violations.
The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan and the Commissioner of Police, Ajmer, for a comprehensive report within two weeks, including details on compensation for the next of kin. The labourer, trapped 18 feet deep by soil collapse, was rescued after 6-7 hours, and his body was sent for post-mortem.
