Delhi, 26 July (H.S.): The Ministry of Fisheries in India and the Maldives' Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources have signed an MoU to enhance bilateral collaboration in fisheries and aquaculture. This agreement is one of six signed during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the Maldives on Friday.
The MoU promotes sustainable tuna fishing, strengthens aquaculture, supports fisheries-based eco-tourism, and encourages scientific research. Key collaboration areas include value chain development, mariculture, trade facilitation, and capacity building. The Maldives will boost fish processing with new cold storage infrastructure and improve aquaculture through hatchery development and species diversification.
Additionally, the MoU includes training programs in aquatic health, biosecurity, and technical skills like refrigeration and marine engineering, aiming for long-term skill development in the fisheries sector and a resilient, sustainable future for both nations.
