Kolkata, 26 July (H.S.) -
The investigation into the high-profile rape case at a prominent Kolkata law college has gained significant momentum, with two key forensic reports confirming the involvement of three prime accused. While one of the accused has been identified as the main perpetrator, the other two allegedly acted as accomplices.
According to police sources, the first forensic report pertains to the examination of accused Manojeet Mishra’s mobile phone. Data retrieved from the device reportedly corroborates the allegations of rape against a female student. Investigators have also found indications of past incidents of sexual misconduct involving Mishra, though authorities have so far refrained from disclosing details of these earlier episodes.
The second report is based on blood samples collected from the guard room on the college campus, which is believed to be the crime scene. The forensic analysis has confirmed the presence and involvement of Manojeet Mishra, along with the two other accused—Jaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay. Police officials state that the case against the trio is now significantly strengthened, leaving little room for legal escape.
So far, statements from 60 witnesses have been recorded as part of the ongoing investigation. In addition, CCTV footage from within the campus has emerged as crucial evidence. The video reportedly shows the accused dragging the victim towards the guard room, where the alleged assault took place.
Earlier this week, authorities also conducted a gait pattern analysis—a method that matches individuals based on their walking style—which confirmed that the individuals seen in the CCTV footage are indeed the three accused currently in custody.
Police officials have expressed confidence in the robustness of the case, citing forensic evidence, witness testimonies, and visual proof as strong pillars supporting the prosecution. The charge sheet is expected to be filed in court soon, paving the way for legal proceedings against the accused.
