Lucknow,
25 July (HS): Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in clear words in a
high-level review meeting of the Energy Department on Friday that the power
system in the state is no longer just a technical or administrative issue, but
has become a measure of public trust and the sensitivity of the government. He
told the officers clearly that tripping, overbilling and unnecessary cuts will
not be accepted under any circumstances. Improvements have to be made.
In
the meeting, the Chief Minister was informed that in June 2025, Uttar Pradesh successfully
met the record maximum power demand of 31,486 MW. During this period, 16,930
million units of electricity were supplied. The ever-increasing humidity and
temperature increased the consumption unexpectedly. Despite this, electricity
was provided for an average of 24 hours in urban areas, 21.5 hours at tehsil
level and 18 hours in rural areas.
The
Chief Minister expressed displeasure over the frequent complaints of tripping
and directed that every feeder should be technically examined. Weak spots should
be identified and repaired immediately. He said that wherever necessary, the
capacity of transformers should be increased immediately so that overloading
does not occur. He also directed that the genuine complaints received from the
field should be resolved in a timely manner so that the public gets relief.
The
Chief Minister told the officials of the Energy Department that there is no
shortage of resources; the government has provided a record budget to
strengthen power generation, transmission and distribution. In such a
situation, negligence at any level will not be tolerated. After knowing the
status of supply in their areas from the Managing Directors of all Discoms, the
Chief Minister directed that accountability should be fixed at every level.
Speaking
on the billing system, the Chief Minister said that “Every consumer should get
a clear and accurate bill every month at the right time. Complaints like false
or overbilling break public trust and damage the credibility of the department.
This should not happen under any circumstances. Billing efficiency should be
increased.
The
Chief Minister directed to set a target to bring down the technical and
commercial losses (line loss) in a phased manner. He said that every discom
will have to work by making a solid strategy at its own level. Also, where
necessary, the process of modernization of the transmission and distribution
system should also gain momentum.
While
reviewing power generation, the Chief Minister was informed that the total
generation capacity of the state is currently 11,595 MW, which includes
thermal, hydropower, renewable and central schemes projects. After the
completion of new projects like Ghatampur and Meja, this capacity will exceed
16,000 MW in the next two years. The Chief Minister asked for continuous
monitoring of these projects and ensuring their timely completion.
Regarding
the agriculture sector, the Chief Minister directed for rapid separation of
agricultural feeders and linking farmers to the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana. He
said that the work of connecting all tubewells to solar energy should be done
on priority, so that farmers can get permanent relief and dependence on
conventional electricity can be reduced.
In
the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the officials that the electricity
system is not just a matter of transformers and wiring, it is a mirror of
public expectations and the government's commitment. It is our responsibility
to ensure that every citizen feels that he is getting electricity without any
discrimination, in a transparent and timely manner.
