Kolkata, 25 July (H.S.) -The Trinamool Congress is likely to announce a major organisational reshuffle at the town and block levels within this month, sources within the party confirmed. With the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, discussions have intensified within the party on bringing new faces to the forefront across its key organisational arms—youth, students, women, and labour wings like INTTUC.
Senior party leaders have indicated that the names of new presidents for town and block committees could be revealed shortly, possibly by the end of July. While some veteran leaders may retain their positions, there is strong speculation that many will be replaced to infuse new energy into the party’s grassroots machinery.
According to insiders, the leadership is considering appointing fresh and popular faces in several organisational districts, especially in North 24 Parganas’ Barrackpore-Dumdum zone. Feedback collected by survey agencies is expected to play a key role in deciding who stays and who goes.
There is extensive discussion across all districts on whether the party will stick with familiar faces or bring in new ones for key posts, a senior leader from the region said. “Trinamool is like a family—both the old and new will have to unite to take on BJP and CPI(M) in 2026.”
Significant changes are expected in Shyamnagar, Bhatpara, Naihati, Noapara, New Barrackpore, and Garulia. In Shyamnagar-Atpur, either a strong district council leader or a councillor close to the Jagatdal MLA is likely to be appointed as the new town committee president. Bhatpara–2 may see a former civic body head return to the leadership role.
With Sanat De now an MLA, the Naihati town president’s post is expected to be vacated, and a prominent trade union leader could assume the youth president role there. This may also lead to a reshuffle in INTTUC’s leadership. In Noapara, the youth wing president may be removed due to internal allegations.
Garulia’s youth leadership is also likely to change, with a young councillor or a woman leader being considered. In Barrackpore, two councillors are reportedly in the race for the top position. Khardaha’s block and town youth leadership posts may also undergo changes.
Trinamool’s organisational president for the Barrackpore-Dumdum district, Partha Bhowmik, confirmed the ongoing internal review process. “The party is in discussions about restructuring. Senior leaders and I-PAC representatives are actively visiting regions. Whoever is given responsibility, we will all collectively gear up for 2026,” Bhowmik stated.
The party had already kicked off its campaign tone during the July 21 rally, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee announced action plans focusing on countering the BJP’s governance in other states and protecting Bengali identity. The upcoming organisational reshuffle is being viewed as a strategic move in line with that larger political narrative.
