Birbhum, 25 July (H.S.): Ahead of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Birbhum district, the Trinamool Congress Birbhum District Core Committee held an emergency meeting on July 25 at the party office in Bolpur. The meeting focused on preparations for the Shaheed Smaran Sabha to be held in Nanur on July 27 and the Chief Minister’s administrative tour scheduled for July 28–29.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to lead a protest march in Bolpur on July 27 against the alleged “cultural terror” targeting Bengali language. She will also chair an administrative meeting in Ilambazar on July 28.
Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly and core committee member Ashish Banerjee said that the meeting was aimed at planning the successful execution of both the political and administrative programs. He mentioned that the district magistrate would provide details of the Ilambazar administrative meeting and confirmed that party leaders and workers from across Birbhum would join the protest rally.
The TMC’s initiative comes days after Mamata Banerjee announced during the party’s annual Martyrs’ Day rally in Kolkata on July 21 that a state-wide movement would begin on July 27 to defend the Bengali language against alleged threats. In line with that declaration, the party is organizing the Shaheed Smaran Sabha at Basapara in Nanur, and a protest march in Bolpur.
In order to finalize arrangements for these events, the district core committee preponed its scheduled July 26 meeting to July 25.
The meeting was attended by prominent party leaders including Anubrata Mondal, Correctional Services Minister Chandranath Sinha, Deputy Speaker Ashish Banerjee, District Council Chairman Fayzul Haque (also known as Kajol Sheikh), Labhpur MLA Abhijit Singh, Suri MLA Bikash Ray Choudhury, and TMC leader Sudipta Ghosh. However, two honorary core committee members, MPs Asit Mal and Shatabdi Roy, were absent.
According to party sources, Mamata Banerjee will arrive in Bolpur on the evening of July 27 and stay at the Rangabitan Guest House in Ballavpur. On July 28, she will hold an administrative meeting at the Geetanjali Auditorium in Bolpur, from where she is expected to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple development projects. She will also inaugurate the new offices of the Paschim Bardhaman District Magistrate and the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate during her visit.
