Bhubaneswar, 25 July (H.S.): All government and private schools across Mayurbhanj district will remain closed today following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region.
The district administration took the decision in light of the IMD’s forecast, which attributes the inclement weather to a well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal that has now intensified into a depression.
In an official order, the Mayurbhanj District Collector directed the closure of all educational institutions on July 25 to ensure the safety of students. School authorities have also been instructed to take precautionary measures, including shifting hostel boarders from temporary or kuchha structures to permanent concrete buildings.
Additionally, schools have been advised to avoid the use of any damaged or dilapidated classrooms to prevent untoward incidents during the adverse weather.
According to the IMD, the district is expected to experience intense rainfall over the next 12 hours under the influence of the depression.
