Jammu, 25 July (H.S.): Pressing their demands, members of PoJK DPs’ Front held a protest demonstration at Mahraja Hari Singh Park, here today, under the leadership of Captain (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib.
Carrying a banner and shouting slogans, they were demanding release of early payment in favour of the DP families, whose files were sent to MHA in 2022, ST status to PoJK DPs, nomination of at least 12 DPs to J&K Legislative Assembly, residential colony for the DPs of 1971 and one time settlement of the DPs.
“We request to State administration as well as Central Govt to give due consideration and weightage to the issue of DPs(non-camp) 1971,” said Capt Yudhvir Singh, while addressing the protest demonstration.
He said that more than 4000 duly passed files of PoJK DPs were sent to MHA in 2022 for payment of Rs 5.5 lakh each through DBT but the claimant did not receive the payment till date.
“Further, it is injustice with the DPs of PoJK that despite their more than 15 lakhs population, only one seat has been earmarked for them in the Assembly whereas Kashmiri migrants are near about 2 lakh but have been allotted two seats,” he said and demanded that minimum 12 seats may be earmarked for DPs of PoJK so that they can have due share in the State Assembly to highlight the issues of refugees.
J P Sharma, general secretary of the Forum and K S Chib, secretary, also spoke on the occasion and highlighted issues of the PoJK DPs. The protest demonstration was attended by J P Sharma Sakandya Devi (Mahila Parmukh), Sukhdev Chib, Kehar Sungh Chib, Master Raghunath Singh, Ch Rattan Lal, Thoru Ram Chib, Sham Singh Chib, Karmal Sharma, Hoshnaki Ram, Ranjit Singh Chib and others.
