Kolkata, 25 July (H.S.) –A private nursing home in the Bunshihari area of South Dinajpur is facing serious allegations of medical negligence after a 42-year-old man, identified as Sujit Mahato, reportedly died due to wrong treatment. The victim's family claims that he was administered an incorrect injection and subjected to careless medical attention, leading to his death.
The incident triggered a protest late Thursday night as the grieving family placed the body in an ambulance and demonstrated in front of the nursing home for several hours.
According to the family, Sujit Mahato had been admitted to the facility on Tuesday with a tumor in his throat. Doctors had scheduled surgery for Thursday evening. However, an hour after he was taken into the operation theatre, the hospital informed the family that his condition had deteriorated and he was being referred to Malda Medical College for further treatment.
While being transported to Malda, Sujit passed away en route. The family then brought the body back to the nursing home and launched a protest, accusing the hospital of medical negligence and failing to respond to their concerns.
Despite the gravity of the situation, family members allege that no representative from the nursing home management came forward to speak with them during the protest.
Police from the Bunshihari station arrived at the scene and intervened to bring the situation under control. On Friday, the body was sent to Balurghat for post-mortem examination.
The victim’s family has stated their intention to file a formal complaint against the nursing home. Police have said that a full investigation will be conducted once a complaint is received. The nursing home management has not yet issued any official statement regarding the incident.
