Jammu, 25 July (H.S.): One individual died in cross-firing after a police team came under fire while chasing suspected peddlers in Surey Chak area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Satwari here today.

Officials said during the chase, the police party was fired upon by unidentified persons.

In the cross firing, they said, one Mohammad Parvez (21) of Javed Nagar, Nikki Tawi, suffered injuries.

He was taken to Government Medical College Jammu, where he succumbed, they said.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased individual lodged a protest outside the Government Medical College Jammu after they were stopped from entering the emergency ward of the hospital.

They claimed the youth was killed without his association with any drug-peddling related activity.

According to them, he was routinely loading sand from the Tawi River when he was fired upon.

Taking cognisance of the matter, senior police officers have reached the spot and started a detailed investigation into the matter.Jam
