Guwahati, 25 July (HS): On the initiative of the Department of Technical Education, a two-day induction training program for newly appointed assistant professors in the engineering colleges of the state was started on Friday at the Assam Administrative Officer College. State Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu was present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.

In his address on this occasion, Education Minister Dr. Pegu said that at present human civilization is being illuminated by new inventions and applications of science and technology. India is rapidly moving towards realizing the vision of Developed India presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and at such a time every teacher working in technical institutions has a special responsibility.

He said that providing degrees should not be the goal of teachers only, but equipping students with skills, innovation and competencies in accordance with the 21st century should be their priority. He called for developing all engineering colleges as centers of innovation, incubation and startups.

Dr Pegu also said that every teacher should move out of the traditional departmentalization and adopt a multidimensional education model in line with the new education policy. He also informed that under the strong leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Education Department has succeeded in filling most of the vacant posts in the technical institutions of the state.

The minister stressed that now the government is working towards making Assam not a self-reliant state but a leading state contributing to the development of India. An example of this is Advantage Assam 2.0, which has been successful in attracting the attention of global companies and will bring new employment opportunities for the youth of the state in future.

It is noteworthy that from May 2021 till now, a total of 239 Assistant Professors (Technical and Non-Technical) have been appointed in engineering colleges and 371 Assistant Professors (Technical and Non-Technical) in polytechnic institutes under the Technical Education Department, which is an important step in the field of higher and technical education in the state.

Higher Education Department advisor Debabrata Das, Additional Secretary Ashrumani Malakar, Technical Education Director Dhruvjyoti Bora and 110 newly appointed assistant professors were present in today's program.
